Friday Ball Program

Historical Context

Quba Community Services’ Friday Ball began in Midland and Lawrence (SMA gymnasium) in partnership with Scarborough Muslim Association (Masjid Abu Bakr) in 2016. It was sparked upon the return of an influential member of the local community from international studies and global community work. QCS associates implemented a model which emphasised attracting diverse youth into safe spaces on a weekly basis where they would have access to direct services through a monthly forum. Our intention was fostering youth empowerment in an Islamically integrated and systematic way to serve as a replicable model which could be easily implemented in Islamic communities and Masaajid around the world.

Friday Ball

Friday Ball is a weekly psychosocial intervention which utilizes consistency, basketball and group work to serve youth living with trauma and reluctant to navigate community spaces which are dominated by social narratives that stigmatize healing. Embedded within Friday Ball, are oppurtunities where youth engage in  social action often producing innovation and creativity. Graduates of Friday Ball have synthesized the model by leading. We have also facilitated healing among the most vulnerable persons and  meaningful community change over the past five years serving hundreds of youth and families anually.
